The venerable monks of the Vihara, including Ven. Pallawela Rahula , Ven. Maitipe Wimalasara, Ven. M. Pannaloka, Ven. B. Kalyanawansa, Ven. W. Mahinda all worked tirelessly to start meeting the needs of the many suffering in Sri Lanka.
In Sri Lanka itself, our volunteers included Ven. Pannila Ananda, Vijith Gunawardena, Sunil Shantha, Anurudha Liyanage, Keerthi Goonatillake, Shiroshi Goonatillake, K D Sadaruwan & Y P Samarasinghe. Of course all the brother monks helped us.
My heartfelt, grateful thanks go to our President, H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa, Urban Development Minister Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Mr. Basil Rajapaksa President’s Political Advisor and Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the Defense Secretary.
Up to this point we have collected a total of US$259,000.00. This money has made it possible for us to build 37 new houses in Ambalangoda Kuligoda at Galagodawatte, in the District of Galle . We also helped to repair and rebuild three temples and gave school supplies to the children affected by the tsunami. I thank our contractor Mr. Mangala Jayasinghe and his staff for a job well done.
Truly, we are blessed with a wonderful, supportive Buddhist community, both in the United States and Sri Lanka. It was through the joint compassionate efforts of everyone, both Buddhist and non- Buddhist, that we were able to do our small part to help in the rebuilding of the tsunami ravaged parts of Sri Lanka.
I express my sincere gratitude to each and everybody who assisted and extended their cooperation in this venture. I wish you happpiness and healthy, long life
May you be well happy, peaceful and prosperous.
