Our Mission

Our long-term goal is to raise $2.5 million towards building 1000 homes in areas that sustained heavy tsunami damage. We received an official endorsement and a pledge of continued support from the Sri Lankan government for this program. Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara, Inc. will closely oversee reconstruction efforts of this project. In our reconstruction plan, we will address not only the physical, but also the psychological needs of the people affected. The funds from this project will go towards helping the tsunami victims in Sri Lanka, regardless of their ethnicity or religious affiliation.

As you already know, the likely number of deaths in Sri Lanka is over 35,000 and over 1.5 million people have lost their homes. Up to today, we have collected more than $125,000 for the relief effort and we have already dispatched a portion of our donations for immediate humanitarian needs such as food, medicine, and clothing. We are seeking corporate and large individual donations in order to reach our $2.5 million fundraising goal.

It is only with the generous support of people from countries like the United States, that we can help many of these families and individuals. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered their help in this matter. Please feel free to visit this website for updates on our progress.

Thank you again, and we look forward to your continued support.

Sincerely yours,

Venerable (Rev.) Walpola Piyananda
